Swiss Wine – An Introduction

We are delighted to invite you to a fun and educational virtual Summer event on wine tasting!

This event is for you if you would like to:

  • Learn more about Swiss wine regions and grapes
  • Understand how to decipher Swiss wine labels
  • Know how to taste wine like a professional
  • Get advice on how to pair wine with food
  • Have the opportunity to network in a relaxed environment with other IBN members and guests

We are honoured that Eamon Hickey, Ambassador of Ireland to Switzerland, will open the event and give a welcome keynote.

Emma O’Connell (Grape Expectations, Jeggli Weine, WSET level 3) will guide us in tasting two classic Swiss wines – a white (‘Heida’) and a red (‘Merlot’). Emma is a Zurich based, Co. Wicklow native who fell in love with learning about wine while training as a chef at Ballymaloe. Please feel free to join even if you don’t have a Swiss wine to hand. The details of the specific wines Emma will taste will be shared upon registration, along with a link to where you can buy them online.

One lucky attendee will win a copy of Ellen Wallace’s  book “Vineglorious! Switzerland’s Wondrous World of Wines”. Ellen is a journalist, wine specialist and author who has been learning about Swiss wines for over 35 years.

Following Emma’s presentation, we will have time to network and share a glass of wine virtually (if you wish).

This event is being organised by Petra Dolan (Basel Chapter Co-Lead).
