Dear IBN Switzerland members and friends,

We wish you a happy new year and all the best for 2021.

Are you;

– Interested in learning more about the business of sport?

– Curious about the business activities that make sport happen such as sponsoring a team, managing an athlete, selling TV rights, putting on an event or marketing to fans?

– Interested in hearing about how elite athletes develop coping mechanisms to deal with setbacks and disappointments, as well as ultimately their career transition? 

Join us for a unique and insightful IBN virtual event, where two former Irish International athletes- Nikki Symmons and Darragh McDonald– will discuss the highs and lows and ins and outs of the sports world, as well as exploring how businesses will always benefit from being connected to sport.

Nikki and Darragh will also speak about persistence, resilience and bouncing back from disappointment, skills that we are all finding that we need more than ever in these difficult times.

Finally, as this is a very inclusive topic, we very much welcome the attendance of the young adult/ teenage children of our members, so do feel free to extend the invite to them to join with you. It might be helpful for them to hear that even world-class athletes also need to develop coping techniques.

Nikki Symmons is a former international Irish field hockey player and teacher. An LGBTQIA role model, her true passion lies in inclusion & diversity, where she has both personal and professional life experience. Nikki has transferred her skills and experience as an elite athlete and sports administrator to the corporate world, most frequently utilizing her innate ability to work as a team and lead by doing.

Darragh McDonald is a retired Paralympic Gold Medallist and World Champion Swimmer who competed in the London 2012 and Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games. He now works in Financial Services leading the operations and reporting team for an Investment Portfolio with AUM of over €250m. Darragh also advises a range of organisations across EMEA on high-performance culture, strategy and relationship building. He has also served as an Independent Non-Executive Director (INED) and Audit Committee member on the board of several high impact Irish charities.
