Presentations from May’s IBN Basel Event

Presentations from May’s IBN Basel Event

Dear Swiss IBN Members,

A big thank you to all who attended the IBN networking event, at the Teufelhof in Basel, on May 24th!  I really enjoyed meeting both old and new members here in Basel. For those of you who missed the event – you missed a great night!

It was my first event as the new Chapter Head for Basel. Since Valerie started the IBN here in Switzerland I have always had a keen interest in looking at synergies between the two countries – Ireland and Switzerland – and seeing how we can provide an introduction platform for Irish businesses supporting Enterprise Ireland when possible.

Our first speaker for the evening was Prof. Ian Marison, Interim Director, National Institute for Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT), Dublin www.nibrt.ie He provided a fascinating account of the short and very successful history of NIBRT.  This is really a great Irish success story.  You can see his presentation here: (Prof. Ian Marison NIBRT Presentation) – but you miss the raconteur that delivered the true story behind the pictures!

Our second speaker was Patrick Ramseyer who kept us well entertained and interested in his talk on “Running a business in Switzerland -from an Irish perspective”.  , He is half Swiss and shared his experiences giving a wealth of information to all who are interested in setting out on their own.  He discussed the do’s and don’ts, the good times, the bad times, the problems, the successes and most of all the differences between running a business in Ireland and in Switzerland. Here is an example of one of the software products Patrick is involved in http://www.theram.ch/BrowseAloud_Demo_Video.ebs?ActiveID=1221. You will find Patrick’s presentation here:(Patrick Ramseyer: Presentation) or for further information check out his website at: www.theram.ch

Justin from the embassy also gave us a quick update on what is going on at the Irish Embassy http://www.embassyofireland.ch

And lastly Ailbhe Grogan who was our Enterprise Ireland representative on the evening gave an update on the Irish economy and Enterprise Ireland.  Thank you to Ailbhe for a lot of the organizational work that goes on in the background to make this night happen.

Please feel free to send the IBN link to anyone you think may be interested in joining. All they need to do is register at www.irishbusinessnetwork.ch Remember they do not have to only be Irish; they can be friends of the Irish.

Also, the IBN is very active on LinkedIn so join up today and get involved in the discussions. All you have to do is click on www.linkedin.com/e/gis/1689007.

Thanks again to all those who attended on the night!

Regards,

Margaret & the the rest of the IBN team; Monica, Elaine & Valerie
